The Slavko Osterc Cultural Society has a very long tradition and is one of the ten oldest cultural societies in Slovenia. Its beginnings date back to 1890, when the reading society was founded. Since 1976, the Cultural Society bears its name after the local, composer and music educator Slavko Osterc. The Slavko Osterc Cultural Society, with its operations, is nowadays a rich cultural pulse of the domestic environment, preserves folk tradition and has an important social function. Today, there are about a hundred members active in six sections: a male vocal group, an older folk group, a Muni fish lacemaking group, a Leščeček vocal group, a Leščeček Folklore Group and a Tamburitza Group Veržej. Sections independently work in their own field, and at major cultural events they join forces. Sections annually make many shorter performances at events in Veržej, its surroundings and beyond. They cooperate with other associations and organizations and attend regional, regional and national meetings organized by the Public Fund of the Republic of Slovenia for Cultural Activities. Independent concerts, implements in the surrounding places, roaming abroad, entertaining events, exhibitions, participation in projects, are activities that take place under the auspices of the Slavko Osterc Cultural Society from year to year. Publishing activity, publishing books and newsletters: a booklet with a CD of this was the newsletter of our first ten (Lesceček section), the books of Janez Ferenc's Verzenska Story and Oklota about the Verženci, and Dr. Matjaž Barboa Slavko Osterc - Classic of Modernism, marked several years of operation of the Society.
