Once upon a time, Mura was driven by almost 100 mills, today there is only Babic mill in Veržej from the old river mills. It is erected on the right bank of the Mura River and has only a mill wheel in the river. The mill is regularly operated and is open to visitors. Rye, wheat, buckwheat and some other flour are also happy to sell to random visitors. A family trip to Babic's mill is an unforgettable experience and a real attraction for the youngest.
The owner of the first mill, which was erected in 1890, was Vladimir Babica - Mirča. Min was floating and always adapted to water levels. The floating mills were characteristic of plain landscapes, which were relatively densely inhabited, and residents produced zito and wheat. The floating mill was independent of the whimsical nature and the amount of precipitation and was made entirely of wood. There was a fire in the mill and burned to the ground.
In 1915, another min was built, owned by Jožef Babic, father of Mirč. The walls and boats were made of wood, and the roof was covered with a special type of bark. This mill also burned to the ground.
Then, in 1925, Jožef Babic built a new mill, thus continuing the mill tradition. The mill house moved to the bank of the Mura, and the water drive was attached to two wooden floating boats, and different belts were used to transfer the drive force.
MIN, still wooden today, is erected on four pillars along the bank of the Mura River, and the water wheel is now attached to two floating knits that are from iron today. In 1990, Mura rose a drive wheel.
In three months, the Babic family set up a new drive wheel that is still breathing with the river.
Water wheel is a known life of life and a symbol of coexistence between the miller and the river, which once gives something and takes a second time.
In the mill, they offer different types of flour: white, rye, bread, buckwheat and corn, buckwheat and millet porridge and other milk products.
